Northern Rose Lace Motifs
Déjà Vu Knits - Inspired by textiles through time...

Northern Rose Lace Motifs designed by Marsha White

Beautiful Roses to warm the heart – a Trio of Lace Scarf Patterns in 2 gauges. You have the option of 3 different levels of difficulty in design, each charted for 2 different gauges - fingering weight for those who love fine yarns, and double knitting for those who enjoy a heavier comfy scarf. The Rose lace motif is featured in all of the designs.

These patterns were inspired by the traditional Shetland Lace pattern Rose Trellis Lace. This well loved pattern appears in the lacework designs of many contemporary designers, attesting to it's timeless beauty.

From simple rows of roses to more complex roses framed by diamonds of lace, there are three levels of expertise to choose from:
• A) Northern Roses in a Row - Adv. Beginners (shown on left)
• B) Northern Roses on the Vine - Intermediate (shown in middle)
• C) Northern Rose Arbour - Experienced (shown on right)
BONUS: Wrist Warmer Pattern (for use if there is leftover yarn), see photo below.

Northern Roses Scarves For those who are trying lace for the first time Northern Roses in a Row offers a simple pattern repeat that is easy to follow, and all the wrong side rows are plain purl so you can have a rest from patterning.

The sample on the left was knit with a hand-dyed fingering weight yarn.

    Features:
  • Delicate all-over Rose motifs
  • Rosebud motif bottom borders
  • Cast on at border, and worked from end to end
  • Recommended for advanced beginning, or intermediate knitters

Northern Roses Scarves In the Northern Roses on the Vine the pattern repeat is a little longer than Northern Roses in a Row, and the delicate scalloped cast-on and cast-off adds an unusual edging to the work. Roses cling to the vines that twist and turn as they make their way up the scarf.

The sample was knit with a fine fingering sock yarn in a two-colour yarn for a lovely tweedy effect.

    Features:
  • Roses in rows with simple, diagonal lace design
  • Decorative scalloped ends, and lacy borders
  • Cast on at border, and worked from end to end
  • Recommended for intermediate or experienced knitters

Northern Roses Scarves For those who like a bit of challenge, the Northern Rose Arbour starts off with a provisional cast-on (if you haven't yet tried this, it's easier than you think it is). The pattern is then worked from the middle to the ends, with lacy zig-zag borders worked in at the same time.

The sample on the left was knit with Fiddlesticks Knitting Zephyr Wool/Silk, in the colour plum. This is a laceweight yarn, and is used doubled ( ie 2 strands together) for beautiful results. A soft silky scarf with excellent drape. Available as a kit below, this yarn has excellent yardage and you can chose to make the scarf longer with extra repeats and still have yarn left to make the Bonus Wrist Warmers.

  • Features:
  • Delicate Rose and Rosebud motifs with diagonal lace
  • Lacy zig-zag borders
  • Provisional Cast-on at centre, and worked from the middle out to the edges, for a perfect mirror image
  • Recommended for experienced knitters
