In the editor's words....
Shawls and Scarves follows a logical progression, beginning with some history, where we delve into traditional Shetland and Faroese shawls. From there we've organized chapters according to shape. Our final chapter, Taking it One Step Beyond brings you to a nice conclusion with an array of lively, untraditional projects which incorporate principles you've learned along the way." (pg 3)
In response to reader enthusiasm for scarf and shawl patterns, XRX has compiled a selection of the best patterns from past issues of Knitter's magazine. The first in a series of 'The Best of Knitter's Magazine', the shawl patterns are drawn from issues 2 to 50 and include traditional Shetland and Faroese shawls, Elizabeth Zimmermann's well-known Pi Shawl, plus shawls in multicolours and unusual designs and techniques.
Shawl and scarf shapes range from circles and squares to triangles and rectangles - in fine lace stitches, garter stitch squares and innovative slip stitch techniques. The contributors are a 'who's who' in knitting - Deborah Newton, Lily Chin, Marilyn van Keppel, Meg Swansen, Eugen Beugler and many more!
